Your server's address

Every server on FadeHost has an address of its own: a short word under fadehost.gg, such as ember.fadehost.gg. It is at the top of the server page, on the server card and on the join page, and it is what you give players.

What players type

  • Minecraft Java: the bare name, ember.fadehost.gg. The port travels in a DNS record (an SRV record), so no port is needed, whatever port the server runs on.
  • Bedrock and every other game: the name and the port, ember.fadehost.gg:26155. Those clients do not read SRV records, so the port stays part of the address. The panel shows it next to the name. With Bedrock crossplay on a Java server, Bedrock players use the name with the Bedrock port.

The node’s IP address and port keep working too. They sit under the name in the panel for anyone who prefers them.

Picking the name

  • New servers pick one of three names offered while the server is created, with a shuffle for three more. Names come from a curated list of short words (a single word, or two joined by a hyphen when the single words run low), never digits, nothing that reads badly.
  • Another name: Settings → General → FadeHost address offers a new name once every 24 hours. The old name sits out for 30 days before another server can have it, so nobody inherits your players.
  • A name of your own is available on paid servers: 3 to 24 characters, lowercase letters, digits and single hyphens, not already in use anywhere on FadeHost. Reserved words (game names, node names, www, play and the like) are refused.

Moving the server

When a server moves to another node (Settings → General → Move to another node, or a move FadeHost makes for you), the address moves with it: its records are re-pointed within about a minute. The port stays the same whenever the destination has it free, so Bedrock and other games keep their full address too. For a day after the move, the old node keeps forwarding the old IP and port to the new one, so a player who saved the raw address still gets in. Give those players the FadeHost address and the next move costs them nothing.

When players still type the IP

On Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Forge, Fabric and NeoForge servers and on Velocity proxies, FadeHost can see which address each player typed. If players keep joining through the IP, the node’s name or another address that does not follow the server, the server page shows a note with the FadeHost address to hand out, and you get one mail about it per server. Dismiss the note and it stays away for a month. A modded server starts reporting after its next restart. Vanilla servers, and modded servers older than Minecraft 1.16, do not report the address, so they get neither.

Alongside the other addresses

  • A free subdomain on one of five FadeHost domains (shulker.xyz, elytra.xyz, bungee.network, fmc.pw and primedtnt.com) can be added right below the FadeHost address, and a domain you own can point at the server with one SRV record. See Custom domains.
  • When a server has a verified own domain or a subdomain, the panel shows that one first and the FadeHost address under it. All of them work at the same time.
