Set up LuckPerms permissions

LuckPerms is the permissions plugin nearly every plugin server runs: groups, per-player permissions, prefixes, and a web editor.

Install

Resources, Plugins, search LuckPerms, Install. Restart.
Optional: a database. LuckPerms works from a file; with several servers or a proxy, point it at a MySQL database (More for this server, Add a database) in plugins/LuckPerms/config.yml. See Databases.

The first groups

In the Console:

default is every player. A permission’s name comes from the plugin that provides it; each plugin’s page lists them.

The web editor

The console prints a link; edit groups and permissions in the browser and apply with the command it gives you. Far faster than typing.

Prefixes

lp group moderator meta setprefix "&c[Mod] "

A chat plugin such as EssentialsX Chat or a scoreboard plugin displays it.

Good to know

Keep operators to the people who may run stop; give everyone else a group.
lp verbose on shows which permission a command checks when you are unsure of its name.
Back up before big permission changes; the file lives in plugins/LuckPerms.
