The free plan for bots and apps

Your first bot or app is free. There is no card to add. We do ask for a verified email address, so open the mail we send when you sign up before you create the app, and every few days we ask whether the app is still in use (see below).

What the free plan gives you

Free plan
Memory256 MB
CPU0.25 vCPU
Disk under /data3 GB
Bots or apps on the account1
Traffic1 GB a day, in and out together

Everything that makes the product work is included: a deploy on every push, the live console, the crash doctor, deploy history and rollback, scheduled commands, and a web address at https://<name>.fadehost.app. Daily backups are the one add-on a free app can buy, at $1 a month.

One free app per person

The free plan is one account per person. A second account does not get a second free app.

We only act when two accounts are clearly the same person. The same public repository on two accounts is never a match on its own, because anyone can deploy a public repository, and our own templates are never a match either. Paid apps are not counted, so you can run as many of those as you have slots for.

If you create a free app that matches, the panel refuses it and says what to do instead. If one is already running when we spot the match, we email you and put a notice on the app’s page with a deadline 24 hours later. Past the deadline the app stops and will not start again until it is on a paid plan or no longer a match. Nothing is deleted and your data stays where it is.

The daily traffic limit

A free app may move 1 GB a day, counted in and out together. The Plan and usage tab shows where the day stands under Traffic today.

An app that goes over the limit stops, and its starts are blocked for 24 hours. The count resets each day. Paid apps have no traffic limit.

A bot or a small dashboard does not come close to 1 GB a day. Serving files or media through a web address does, and that is outside what the plan is for in the first place. See what is not allowed.

Sleeping, regions, the firewall and the check

Four things work differently on the free plan.

A free app is asked whether it is still in use. Every 4 days, if you have not opened the app’s page in the panel in the meantime, you get one mail with a link; one click keeps the app running. Starting or redeploying it from the panel counts too. Without an answer within 2 days the app is stopped, and you can start it again any time from the panel. It keeps the free slots with apps people use. Paid apps are never asked.

A free app with a web address sleeps. It sleeps when nobody has opened its address for a while and wakes on the next request. You pick the window, from 5 minutes to 12 hours, but you cannot switch the sleeping off. A free app with no web address, a Discord bot for example, stays on. The details are under sleeps when idle.

The region is picked for you. Free apps run wherever there is room for them, so a free app cannot be moved. See Regions and moving an app.

Outbound traffic follows a fixed list. A free app can reach what is on the list on its Firewall tab and nothing else. The list is the same for every free app and you cannot change it.

What a paid plan changes

Move the app to a paid plan from the Plan and usage tab, and all of it changes:

  • 1 GB of memory and a whole vCPU for the app, instead of 256 MB and a quarter,
  • up to 3 GB more memory for that app, $1 a month each, so it can run on 4 GB,
  • more disk, 5 GB on Starter and up to 20 GB on Pro,
  • no daily traffic limit,
  • always on, instead of sleeping when nobody is using it,
  • never asked whether it is still in use,
  • you pick the region, and can move the app to another one later,
  • everything out is allowed, or your own list of what is,
  • it can send mail through a provider,
  • more than one bot or app on the account.

Paid plans start at $2 a month for one app. Standard is $3 a month and carries two, your app and your test app, and Pro is $6 a month and carries four. The full table is under Plans and limits.
