7 Days to Die server requirements
What the server needs before you pick a size. 6 GB of RAM is the minimum, and the table below sizes it by player count.
- RAM
- 6 GB minimum. Every extra gigabyte is $1 a month and can be added or removed later without a reinstall.
- CPU
- Heavy on horde nights: hundreds of zombies on one thread. 6 GB and a fast core for a group.
- Disk
- Saves grow with explored map, several GB on a long game.
- Ports
- One TCP and UDP port pair plus a query port, assigned for you.
- Mods and plugins
- Server-side XML and modlet mods work without client installs; overhauls such as Darkness Falls need the same mod on every client.
- Your existing world
- Upload the save folder for your world name; keep the game version the save was made on.
RAM by player count
Sizing by player count. Start small and add RAM later in a couple of clicks, with no reinstall. For a Minecraft server with plugins, mods or Bedrock players, the RAM calculator sizes it from what servers hosted here use.
| Players | Recommended RAM | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2 to 4 | 8 GB | Navezgane or small RWG map |
| 5 to 8 | 10 GB | Standard RWG world |
| 8+ / overhaul mods | 12 GB+ | Darkness Falls-class overhauls |
How to make a 7 Days to Die server
A dedicated 7 Days to Die server keeps your world persistent and lets your group defend the same base every horde night, with no host required.
- 1
Create your server
Start the free 7-day trial (no credit card) or pick a plan. 6 GB covers a generated world with a small group; bump it for big worlds or many players. Then hit Create Server in the panel, choose 7 Days to Die and your region, and the server installs itself. Your server's address and port appear on the server page as soon as it's up.
- 2
Generate your world
Pick world size, difficulty, day length and PvE/PvP from the Settings tab. Random world generation runs on first boot and takes a while. Grab a coffee; it only happens once.
- 3
Choose visibility
Toggle server-browser listing from the panel. Listed servers appear in the in-game browser under your server name; unlisted stays private for direct connections only.
- 4
Join the server
In 7 Days to Die choose Join a Game and search your server name, or use Connect to IP with the address and port from your server page.
What the panel hands you
- Address
- On the server page as soon as it is up, port and all.
- Console and files
- Live console, a file manager and SFTP, from the first minute.
- Backups
- Daily, with one-click restore and a backup you can take by hand before a risky change.
- If it goes wrong
- The crash doctor reads the log and tells you the cause in plain words.

What a 7 Days to Die server costs
You pay for RAM, not for the title: a server slot is $2.50 a month with 1 GB and 30 GB of storage, and every gigabyte after that is $1. A year is ten months. The same subscription runs 7 Days to Die today and anything else we host tomorrow.

Who can join
The honest version, so nobody buys a server their friends cannot reach.

PC on Steam. The console edition is a separate game.
Crossplay
PC only.
Regions and latency
Pick Europe or North America when you create the server. North America has nodes on the east coast and the west coast, Europe in the west, all on NVMe storage with DDoS protection in front. Players on the same continent as the server see 20 to 60 ms, which 7 Days to Die handles well; a group split across the Atlantic should host where most of them are. Changing region later is a backup, a new server in the other region, and a restore.
Frequently asked questions
- How much RAM does a 7 Days to Die server need?
- 8 GB minimum: the engine is hungry, especially on generated worlds. 12 GB keeps horde nights smooth with 8+ players. Random-gen worlds also take several minutes to generate on first boot; that's normal.
- Do updates wipe my world?
- Major version updates usually break saves (that's the game, not the host). Minor patches don't. We let you pin your version so your group updates when it suits you, and backups mean you can always roll back.
- Can players find my server in the in-game browser?
- Yes. Listing is a toggle in the panel. Listed servers answer the in-game browser and query tools; unlisted servers are join-by-address only for private groups.
- Can I tune difficulty, loot and horde settings?
- Everything in serverconfig.xml is exposed as panel settings: difficulty, loot abundance, day length, blood-moon frequency and count, zombie speed and more. Changes apply on restart.
- Are mods and overhauls like Darkness Falls supported?
- Yes. Upload mods to the Mods folder via the file manager. Big overhauls need matching client installs and often a fresh map; our backups make experimenting safe.
