How to make a Team Fortress 2 server
A Team Fortress 2 server on FadeHost takes a few minutes, and since the game is free-to-play your whole community can join without buying anything.
- 1
Create your server
Start the free 7-day trial (no credit card) or pick a plan. 1 GB covers a standard server; 2 GB for 32 slots with SourceMod. Then hit Create Server in the panel, choose Team Fortress 2 and your region, and the server installs itself. Your server's address and port appear on the server page as soon as it's up.
- 2
Pick your map and slots
Set the start map (ctf_2fort by default), max players, server name and an optional join password from the Settings tab. For trade, surf or MvM servers, upload SourceMod and your maps via the file manager. custom.cfg survives restarts.
- 3
Join the server
Open the in-game server browser and search your server name, or use connect in the console (~) with the address and port from your server page. The server is VAC-secured and publicly listed automatically.
What the panel hands you

- If it goes wrong
- The crash doctor reads the log and tells you the cause in plain words.

What a Team Fortress 2 server costs
You pay for RAM, not for the title: a server slot is $2.50 a month with 1 GB and 30 GB of storage, and every gigabyte after that is $1. A year is ten months. The same subscription runs Team Fortress 2 today and anything else we host tomorrow.

Who can join
The honest version, so nobody buys a server their friends cannot reach.

Regions and latency
Pick Europe or North America when you create the server. North America has nodes on the east coast and the west coast, Europe in the west, all on NVMe storage with DDoS protection in front. Players on the same continent as the server see 20 to 60 ms, which Team Fortress 2 handles well; a group split across the Atlantic should host where most of them are. Changing region later is a backup, a new server in the other region, and a restore.
Frequently asked questions
- How much RAM does a TF2 server need?
- 1 GB runs a standard 24-slot server comfortably; plan 2 GB for a full 32-slot server with SourceMod plugins and custom maps.
- Can I run trade, MvM, surf or jump servers?
- Yes. Install SourceMod via the file manager or SFTP, add your maps to the maps folder and set the start map in your server settings. Custom configs live in custom.cfg, which survives restarts.
- Do I need a Game Server Login Token (GSLT)?
- No. TF2 servers run anonymously and still appear in the server browser. Create the server and it's public immediately.
- Do my players need to buy anything?
- No. Team Fortress 2 is free-to-play on Steam, so anyone can download the game and join your server at no cost.
