How to make a Counter-Strike 2 server

A Counter-Strike 2 server on FadeHost is a few clicks plus one free token from Steam. The install is big (about 35 GB), so the very first boot takes the longest. After that, restarts are quick.

  1. 1

    Create your server

Start the free 7-day trial (no credit card) or pick a plan β€” 2 GB covers a standard 5v5 server; 4 GB gives headroom for bigger player counts. Then hit Create Server in the panel, choose Counter-Strike 2 and your region, and the server installs itself. Your server's address and port appear on the server page as soon as it's up.

  2. 2

Add your Game Server Login Token

Sign in at steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers, create a free token for app 730 and paste it into the GSLT field in your server's Settings tab. This is what makes your server joinable over the internet. You can skip it for a LAN-style test server.

  3. 3

Pick your mode, map and slots

Choose Competitive, Casual, Wingman, Deathmatch or Arms Race, set the start map (de_dust2 by default), max players, server name and an optional join password. Your own tweaks go in custom.cfg, which survives restarts.

  4. 4

    Join the server

Open the console (~) in CS2 and run connect with the address and port from your server page, or find the server in the community browser. CS2 is free to play, so anyone can join.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Game Server Login Token (GSLT)?

Yes, for a server people join over the internet. It takes two minutes and is free: sign in at steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers, create a token for app 730, and paste it into your server settings in the panel. Without a token the server still boots, but only for LAN-style testing.

How much RAM does a CS2 server need?

2 GB runs a standard 5v5 or small casual server fine. Plan 4 GB for bigger player counts like 16+ slot deathmatch or community servers with plugins.

Why does the first start take so long?

The CS2 dedicated server is a roughly 35 GB download, so the very first install can take a while. It only happens once: after that, starts and restarts take seconds, plus a quick update check whenever Valve ships a patch.

Can I run practice, surf or community game modes?

Yes. Your own settings live in custom.cfg, which survives restarts, and you can upload custom maps and server plugins like Metamod and CounterStrikeSharp through the file manager or SFTP. The panel also has a Custom mode option so your config is in charge.

Do my friends need anything special to join?

Just Counter-Strike 2, which is free to play on Steam. They can join with connect your-address:port in the console, or find the server in the community browser once your GSLT is set.
