Minecraft 1.20.1
· Java 17
1.20.1 was a hotfix five days after Trails & Tales that resolved five issues. It keeps protocol 763, so it is compatible with 1.20 servers, which is why plugin platforms settled on it.
What 1.20.1 changedMinecraft 1.20.2
· Java 17
1.20.2 fixed over 200 issues and reworked how the server sends chunks and negotiates joins. It added a configuration phase to the protocol, the random command and function macros.
What 1.20.2 changedMinecraft 1.20.3
· Java 17
Bats and Pots let decorated pots store items and added the copper and tuff block families. It also added the tick command, which lets admins change, freeze and measure the server tick rate.
What 1.20.3 changedMinecraft 1.20.4
· Java 17
1.20.4 was a two day hotfix that stopped decorated pots deleting their contents on world reload. It is the last release that runs on 32 bit systems and on Java 17 to 20.
What 1.20.4 changedQuestions about 1.20
When was Minecraft 1.20 released?
Minecraft: Java Edition 1.20, Trails & Tales, was released on June 7, 2023.
What Java version does a Minecraft 1.20 server need?
Java 17. On FadeHost the server starts with the right Java for its Minecraft version on its own, so there is nothing to install or switch.
What did Minecraft 1.20 add?
Trails & Tales added archaeology, armour trims, camels and sniffers, plus the cherry grove biome and two new wood sets. It also brought hanging signs, the chiseled bookshelf and the calibrated sculk sensor.
Can players on another version join a 1.20 server?
Players on 1.20.1 can: the network protocol (763) is the same. Any other version has to match the server, unless a Paper server runs plugins such as ViaVersion and ViaBackwards.
Can I update my world to Minecraft 1.20?
Yes. Take a backup, switch the server to 1.20 and start it: the world is converted on the first boot. A world opened in 1.20 cannot be opened in an older version again, so keep the backup until you are sure.
How do I start a Minecraft 1.20 server?
Create a server on FadeHost and pick 1.20 in the software list: Paper, Purpur, Vanilla, Fabric, Forge and Mohist are there for this version. It is online in about a minute. The free tier runs a 2 GB server at no cost, and a paid server is sized to the RAM you need.
